Afghanistan: Hosting the Taliban is against international principles

Sediq Sediqi, the Spokesperson to the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan says hosting the Taliban is against all international principles and relations.

In response to Iran hosting the Taliban delegation in Tehran for negotiations, the Spokesperson to the President of Afghanistan tweeted: “Taliban’s narrative is war, violence, and massacre of people. Taliban is a serious threat to the security of the region and the world.”

He continued: “Hosting this group is against all international principle and relations, especially for the government of Afghanistan which always seeks good relations with its neighbors.”

Abbas Mousavi, the spokesperson for the foreign ministry of Iran had confirmed yesterday that a Taliban delegation has visited Iran and has had talks with Iranian officials.

The Taliban delegation had previously visited Russia for negotiations.

One week ago, the peace talks between the United States and Taliban broke down after a terrorist attack in Kabul. Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

Last year, Afghan officials accused the regime of Iran of sending money, weapons, and explosives to Taliban.

Last October, the United States accused Iran of providing military training, funds, and weaponry for the Taliban.

Iran has confirmed that they have been in negotiations with the Taliban for some time.

In 1998, Iran and the Taliban were enemies and Taliban forces killed 11 Iranian diplomats in Afghanistan.
