Mohammad Ali Najafi, the former mayor of Tehran, surrendered to the police and confessed to the murder of his wife Mitra Ostad.

According to the police, “Najafi confessed that his motive for the murder was domestic disputes.”

Mitra Ostad, the wife of the former mayor, was shot and killed in the bath.

The coroner reported that the cause of death was a bullet to the chest, and several other bullets were found on the scene.

The apartment in which Mitra Ostad was murdered belonged to her. According to the reports, Najafi arrived at the scene at 14:46.

Parisa Salehi, a reporter for Ensaf News tweeted: “Yesterday (Monday), Najafi’s second wife called Ensaf and wanted to do an interview. She was supposed to come to the office today, but she was murdered.” According to another Ensaf News reporter, Mitra was going to talk about her life with Najafi.

One year ago, after Najafi’s controversial resignation as the mayor of Tehran due to “illness”, photos of Najafi and his new wife showed up on social media. Mitra Ostad was almost 30 years younger than Najafi.

Najafi has a long history as a politician in the Islamic Republic, which goes back to the governments of Mousavi and Hashemi Rafsanjani.
