Journalist Rouhollah Zam sentenced to death for "spreading corruption on earth"

The spokesman for Iran’s judiciary, Gholamhossein Esmaili, announced that Rouhollah Zam, the founder and former admin of the dissident Telegram news channel “Amad News” has been sentenced to death.

“The court has found 13 of the charges as examples of spreading corruption on earth,” said Esmaili in his press conference on Tuesday. He added: “Zam has also been sentenced to prison for some of his charges, but the verdict is not final.”

Zam’s trial began in February with 17 charges, among which are “espionage for Israeli and French intelligence services, cooperation with the hostile government of the US, and participation in gathering classified information with the intent to deliver to others.”

The court has also charged Zam with acts against national security, including “assembly and conspiracy to commit crimes against national and international security, participation in persuading and provoking the people to war and massacre, effective encouragement of members of the armed forces to rebel, flee, surrender, or refuse to do their duty.”

He has also been convicted of spreading corruption on earth and earning illegitimate assets through his media activities.

Rouhollah Zam was lured to Iraq through false information and was arrested by Iraqi forces and was delivered to Islamic Revolutionary Gard Corps (IRGC) forces in Iraq last year.
