Abolfazl Ghadyani, a prominent member of Mujahedin of the Islamic Revolution and a critic of the leader of the Islamic Republic was sentenced to three years in prison and “transcribing three books” for “insulting the leader and propaganda against the regime”.

Morteza Ghadyani, his son, has published his sentence on Twitter.

The verdict sentences Ghadyani to two years in prison for insulting the leader of the Islamic Republic and one year for propaganda against the regime. The verdict, which was issued in absentia, also states that as “supplementary punishment” he must “study and transcribe” three books published by the Islamic Republic publishing house.

Morteza Ghadyani says sarcastically that the three books are for his father to “get to know Mr. Khamenei better.”

Ghadyani who was also imprisoned by the previous regime before the revolution, first got arrested after the revolution in 2009, and three years later, he was sentenced to two years in prison and 40 lashes.

He is an outspoken critic of Ayatollah Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic. In his latest essay, he criticized the leader’s statement on the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

He described Khamenei’s statement “like his other statements and speeches full of slogans, generalization, boring repetition, and extraordinary lies” and said: “the leader of a regime which is held together by corruption and if you take away the corruption the whole regime falls apart, is preaching about fighting corruption!”

In another part of his essay, he accuses Khamenei of “regional ambition” and “violent suppression” of the opposition inside the country and said: “The leader of the Islamic Republic and his regime will not accept reform.”
