Bahai citizens face new wave of arrests in Iran
In recent days a new wave of persecution of Bahai citizens has begun in Iran.
An informed source has told Iran International that on Sunday, security forces arrested three Bahai citizens Monireh Bavil Soflaei, Minou Zamanipour, and Gholam Hossein Mazloumi in Tehran.
The agents also searched the house of Jamaloddin Khanjani a former leader of Iranian Bahais on Friday.
Prior to these arrests, researcher and author Touraj Amini in Karaj, researcher and translator Farough Izadinia in Tehran, Farid Moghaddam Ziraki in Birjand, and Rouhollah Zibaei in Karaj were also arrested.
Bahais are a religious minority group in Iran that are not recognized by the Islamic Republic. Ever since the Islamic Revolution, the regime has consistently persecuted the Bahai citizens and has systemically discriminated against them through its laws.
Many of the leaders of the Bahai community of Iran were arrested and later executed in the early 1980s after the revolution. A large number of Bahais have left the country in the past 40 years after the establishment of the Islamic Republic.
