Congress is Trying to Fix the CFT's Problems
Ali Najafi Khoshroodi, spokesperson for the national security and foreign policy committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Islamic Republic’s Congress) reported that they are working on fixing some of the issues that the Guardian Council has raised with the CFT (Combatting the Financing of Terrorism) bill.
He also stated that some of the committee members have insisted on some of the articles in the bill.
If Congress insists on the bill and doesn’t change all the issues raised by the Guardian Council, the bill goes to the Expediency Discernment Council.
The Guardian Council rejected the CFT bill earlier in November and pointed out 22 problems with the bill.
The Rouhani government wants to pass the bill and president Rouhani and foreign minister Javad Zarif have talked about the importance of this bill in face of U.S sanctions.
The Guardian Council members are appointed directly (clerics) and indirectly (law experts) by the supreme leader.
