IRGC: 116 teenagers arrested in protests were sent to correctional facilities
The Telegram channel of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Ammar Headquarters announced that at least 116 children under 18 arrested during the country-wide protests in Iran have been transferred to correctional facilities by the Intelligence Ministry.
It was previously reported that at least 20 children under 18 were killed and over 1000 of them were arrested during the protests in Iran.
According to Ammar Cyber Headquarters’ channel: “The average age of these individuals is between 15 and 18 and they have had no connection to the agitator network and have only participated in protests out of youthful passion.”
On Sunday, sister of arrested teenager Ali Yektaei, told Iran International that her brother, 15 years old, who was working while going to school, has been transferred to Shahr Ziba correctional facility. His bail was set at 600 million tomans.
Iran International reported on Monday that according to the statements made by Islamic Republic officials and reports from Human Rights organizations, a large number of children have been arrested during the protests in provinces such as Khuzestan, Kurdistan, and Lorestan.
However, the Minister of Education rejected the reports about the arrests of students.
Last week, two other officials at the Ministry of Education also claimed that no students were arrested by law enforcement.
