The Guardian Corrects the Title of its Article on Iran International

On Tuesday, October 2nd, The Guardian published an article claiming that Ofcom has started an investigation into Iran International TV for their interview with the spokesperson of Alahvaziah group after the attack on the military parade in Ahvaz.

Ofcom’s official Twitter page quickly denied the allegation and clarified that they are merely looking into the complaints regarding the interview and have not launched an investigation.

Iran International has stated repeatedly that the segment in question was a professional work of journalism and the views expressed by the spokesperson were challenged and in no way promoted. Yet Islamic Republic authorities have repeatedly objected to the segment and have asked Ofcom to investigate Iran International “for giving airtime to a supporter of the assault.”

The Guardian article, written by Saeed Kamali Dehghan, repeated those claims and even went a step further in its title, claiming that Ofcom is investigating Iran International over that interview, even though the article itself states that Ofcom is merely assessing the complaints.

However, today, The Guardian changed the title of the article to “Ofcom examining TV network over interview praising attack in Iran”.

A correction has been added at the end of the article.
