18 Arrested in Workers' Protests in Khuzestan
According to the reports on social media, on Monday, November 19, the unpaid workers of Haft-Tappeh Sugarcane company continued their protests for the 15th day.
Hundreds of Haft Tappeh company workers have been protesting for two weeks. They demand their unpaid wages and clarification on the future of the company.
On Sunday it was reported that two representatives of the workers and a female journalist were arrested. But a few hours later, there were reports of more arrests.
According to the latest reports, the official Telegram channel of Haft-Tappeh workers has released the names of 18 individuals arrested by the security forces, among them is Sepideh Ghelyan, a journalist, and the rest are all workers and employees of Haft-Tappeh company (including some in management who were following up on the situation of the arrested workers at the security police of Shush.)
On Monday, demand for the release of previously arrested workers was added to the demands of the protesters. According to the reports, workers held their pictures as they protested in the streets and moved towards the courthouse.
Shush police forces have blocked the streets that lead to the governor’s office, and there are reports that parts of the market closed down in support of the workers.
