18 Congressmen Resign in Protest to Isfahan’s Water Crisis

After the water supply projects for Isfahan province were removed from the next year budget, 18 members of Congress from Isfahan province resigned in protest.

Akbar Torki, the representative from Fereydoon Shahr, announced this news and said: “The letter of resignation of these representatives was sent to the board of Congress.”

The resignation letter states: “Unfortunately, it has been years since the campaign promise of the president to people of Isfahan about reviving Zayandehrud river, and since then, despite all the efforts, nothing has been done. Even demand for a supply of drinking water has been denied despite the crisis. Therefore, if we cannot protect the minimum right of our constituents and millions of people to drinkable water, we do not see any reason to continue our presence in the Congress as representatives."

This is not the first time a group of representatives resigns in protest. In recent years representatives from Khuzestan and Khorasan provinces have also resigned as a group but they took it back after negotiations.
