40 Arrested During the Truck Drivers' Strike

On the sixth day of the truck drivers’ strike in Iran, the Free Workers Union of Iran announced that near 40 individuals were arrested on Thursday in relation to the strike. They were accused of “disruption of the transportation and delivery of essential goods.”

The Free Workers Union of Iran reported that the strike is in progress in all the 31 provinces of Iran, and it has caused a shortage of fuel in several towns and cities.

The media in Iran has not reported on the strike, and those arrested have been reported as people who attacked and stopped the fuel trucks.

Attorney General’s office in Shiraz issued a statement on Tuesday warning “serious repercussions for those who conspire with the enemies to create dissatisfaction by blocking Trucks in this province.” The statement also mentioned the possibility of the “war against God” charges for those arrested.

The new round of Truck drivers’ strike in many cities of Iran started with demands such as fares based on tons per kilometer, lowering the cost of spare parts and tires through subsidization, removing customs tariffs, increased wages, increased retirement pays, increased road security, rebuilding the drivers’ syndicates through free elections, and better services at terminals.
