72 Citizens Arrested for Attending a Party in Sari
By the order of the Attorney General of Mazandaran province, 72 guests were arrested by the police at a party in Sari.
Hossein Alemi, the AG of Mazandaran province announced on Tuesday that locals had reported a mixed party (term used for parties where men and women are not separated) to the IRGC, and after clearing the matter with the prosecution’s office, police were sent to arrest the culprits.
According to the attorney general of Mazandaran, alcohol was consumed at this party, so there are several charges that need to be considered including “attending a mixed party, violating Sharia law, and consumption of alcohol.” Then the case will be sent to court.
In recent years such police attacks on private events have increased, and thousands have been arrested in cities across the country, with many being lashed as punishment.
