The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health reported that in the past 45 days, a new wave of alcohol poisoning is spreading across the country which has poisoned over 959 people.
According to Iraj Harirchi, out of this number, 402 were in Alborz province, 326 in Hormozgan, 76 Northern Khorasan, and 61 in Tehran and 84 of them have passed away. 305 have gone through dialysis, and 27 have gone blind.
In Iran, possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages is illegal (except for some religious minorities) and people who violate the law will receive lashings or prison sentences. According to Islamic Criminal Law in Iran, if a person is punished twice for drinking alcohol and gets caught drinking alcohol again, he must be executed.
