Iran moves fake aircraft carrier to Strait of Hormuz
Satellite images show that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s military forces have moved a mock aircraft carrier toward the Strait of Hormuz.
The images from Maxar Technology company show the fake vessel, modeled after Nimitz class carriers, being tugged from Bandar Abbas port to the Strait of Hormuz.
This could be preparation for a military drill and target practice.
Islamic Republic officials have not offered an explanation for this move.
The dummy US Navy aircraft carrier was built in 2013-14 and was destroyed in the Winter of 2015 in a military drill. According to the IRGC, the vessel was hit by 4 missiles, 400 rockets, and a fast explosive boat.
The vessel was recently repaired and seems to be ready for another military drill.
The vessel carries 16 mock fighter jets on its deck and is 200 meters long and 50 meters wide, compared to the Nimitz class carrier which is 300 meters long and 75 meters wide.
Previously, the dummy carrier was kept close to where 100 IRGC speed boats were stationed.
