Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization:

"Announcing the number of November casualties is government’s responsibility"

The chief of Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization, Abbas Masjedi Arani, announced that based on the national security council’s ruling, it is the government’s responsibility to declare the number of November casualties.

His announcement comes in response to President Rouhani’s comment yesterday where he claimed that it is the duty of the Medicine Organization to announce the number of casualties during the November protests.

The chief of the Legal Medicine Organization also emphasized that the organization has reported all its data to the related authorities.

Arani added: “It has been decided by the national security council, which is a subsidiary to the government, and it is clear which office must announce the numbers.”

In the three months since the November protests, no government or judicial official has offered a report about the number of protesters killed or arrested in November.

Previously, Reuters reported the number of casualties at around 1500, with some officials confirming direct shootings at the protesters.

IN December the New York Times published a report about 100 protesters killed in Mahshahr swamps. Several Islamic Republic officials have confirmed the massacre in Mahshahr without providing a number.
