Cartoon exhibition in Tehran depicts Queen of Britain as pirate
As the tensions rise between Iran and Britain over the seizure of tankers, the Islamic Republic has organized a cartoon exhibition titled “The Pirate Queen”.
The exhibition has been organized by two state-owned institutions with 40 cartoons from 14 cartoonists. The subject is “the Evil British government’s piracy” referring to the seizure of the Iranian supertanker by the British forces in Gibraltar.
The “evil (vicious)” label, was recently uttered by the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei, while referring to Britain. He described their seizure of Iranian tanker as piracy.
The secretary of the exhibition, Masoud Shojaei Tabatabaei says: “Caricature is a universal language and we feel the need to express the truth about this robbery in the form of this Pirate Queen exhibition.”
Tabatabaei is the chairman of Iran’s house of caricature and cartoonist with ties to the regime of Iran.
Previously, some state-owned media attacked the celebration of the Queen’s birthday in the UK embassy.
The Islamic Republic regularly uses cartoon exhibits to support its political narrative. In the past, the Islamic Republic has also organized several “Holocaust Denial” cartoon exhibitions, inviting cartoonists from around the world to participate.
