Coronavirus hits the Islamic Republic’s inner circle: 12 dead, 43 infected
As the coronavirus spreads throughout the country and the death toll rises, it appears that the Islamic Republic’s inner circle has also been hit with the virus and so far, the numbers show 12 dead and 43 infected among the officials.
The official stats announced by the Ministry of Health claim that until Monday night, over 7000 Iranians have been diagnosed with COVID19.
The reports also show that at least 55 regime officials have either been quarantined, treated, or have died from the disease. Among the officials, there are names of clerics, government officials, diplomats, members of parliament, army and police commanders, and municipality officials.
Mohammad Mir-Mohammadi, a member of the Expediency Discernment Council, is among the diseased officials. He was close to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic and worked in his administration during his presidency.
On Monday, Mohammad Reza Rah-Chamani, a former four-time member of parliament who was also a physician also passed away from the disease.
Other diseased officials include Ahmad Tooysarkani, advisor to Ebrahim Raisi, the chief of judiciary; Hossein Shaikhol-Islam, former ambassador to Syria and one of the hostage-takers of the American embassy in 1979; Hadi Khosroshahi, former ambassador to the Vatican; Fatemeh Rahbar, Member of parliament, Mohammad Ali Ramezani Dastac, an MP-elect, and the governor of Astaneh province, both from Gilan province.
