The Department of Justice Indicts Two Iranian Hackers

The department of justice indicted two Iranian hackers for designing the “Samsam Ransomware” and attacking American organizations and government institutions.

Mohammad Mehdi Shahmansouri and Faramarz Shahi Savandi, are the two hackers under FBI investigation.

Due to their attacks, for the first time ever the department of justice has put two Bitcoin addresses on its sanction list. Experts believe this is a warning for the Iranian officials to not attempt to use online currency to go around the sanctions.

The two hackers were able to inflict over $30 million damage to American infrastructures and government institutions and were able to receive $6 million in ransom from their victims.

They have attacked public buildings, infrastructure, and several hospitals in 10 states.
