Exclusive- Rouhani: Even if two million die, we can’t shut down the country
According to the information that Iran International has received, in the Supreme National Security Council meeting on Tuesday, President Rouhani said that even if two million people lose their lives to coronavirus, we cannot shut down the country due to the economic conditions.
Reliable sources informed Iran International on Thursday that in this session Rouhani said: “Even if between two to two and a half million people lose their lives to coronavirus, we cannot shut down the country due to the economic conditions of the people.”
According to the report, the president once again opposed the continued shut down of businesses in the country, saying: “If we shut down businesses, after a while we will face 30 million hungry people protesting in the streets.”
In a survey done by Tehran’s municipality, three out of four Tehran residents agree with continuing the shutdown.
According to the exclusive report that Iran International has received, in the Supreme National Security Council session, it was reported that almost 18000 people have died of coronavirus and over 4000 are in critical condition.
The report also states that President Rouhani also opposed the request from the Ministry of Education to shut down schools until the end of the school year.
The report indicates that education officials plan on gradually closing the schools in order to prevent a catastrophe and change President Rouhani’s mind on closing the schools and universities.
