Finishing the Dam Projects Despite 11 Years of Drought

Mohammad Hajrasouli, the president of Iran’s Water Management Company told ISNA that: “We have had droughts for 11 years, and last year we witnessed a 50 percent decline in our running water across the country.”

Although Iran’s water management critics believe that the droughts are caused by excessive construction of dams and mismanagement of water in farming, Hajrasouli emphasized that the dam projects will be finished.

He said: “We plan on finishing these projects as soon as possible.”

He reported that 172 dams have been finished in this decade, and that “the average yearly rainfall in the country has decreased from 250 mm to 200mm”.
