Firouzabadi: Basij force should be more active on social media

Abolhasan Firouzabadi, chairman of Internet affairs council said: “In order to release the nation from the claws of Western domination in the virtual world”, there are plans in place to “nationalize these platforms.”

Firouzabadi added that the social media “need Basiji activists”. Basij is the civilian militia arm of the IRGC.

He continued: “It is crucial for the Basij forces to reinforce the revolutionary front and counter all the bots that produce likes and comments online.”

Speaking at a Basij gathering, Firouzabadi emphasized: “wherever you can, from Twitter to Instagram post supportive comments and have a strong presence and support the revolutionary front.”

According to Firouzabadi, despite the heavy filtering of social media in Iran, Iranians on average spend three hours a day on social media. After Twitter and Facebook, recently Telegram messenger was also blocked by the Islamic Republic, but Instagram is still available.
