Grace 1 supertanker will be released
The British newspaper the Sun reports that according to the Chief Minister of Gibraltar, Fabian Picardo, Gibraltar will release Iran’s Grace 1 tanker by Thursday.
Grace 1 holds two million barrels of Iranian oil. The tanker was detained last month by British forces while passing through Gibraltar.
Sun writes that a source close to Picardo has said that we believe this tanker has not violated the EU sanctions against Syria and therefore there is no other reason to keep Grace 1.
According to British officials, the supertanker was in violation of Eu sanctions against Syria.
The chairman of Iran’s Maritime Organization had previously claimed that documents exchanged between the two countries will help release the tanker.
The Islamic Republic officials had labeled the seizure of the tanker as “piracy”.
