The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that the Acting Director-General of the organization, Cornel Feruta, has demanded Iran’s full and timely cooperation with the IAEA for monitoring the country’s nuclear program.

The statement reads: “Discussions covered IAEA activities in Iran, with an emphasis on the ongoing interactions between the IAEA and Iran related to the implementation of the Safeguards Agreement and Additional Protocol.”

During his visit, Feruta said that “IAEA’s safeguards activities are conducted in an impartial, independent and objective manner, and in accordance with standard safeguards practices.” 

The IAEA statement continues: “The discussions also included the IAEA’s verification and monitoring of Iran’s nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). In this regard, Mr. Feruta was informed about Iran’s announced activities related to its centrifuge research and development. He said he will report on these activities to the IAEA Board of Governors.”

Feruta is to report Iran’s activities to the IAEA leaders’ summit. 

On Friday, September 6, Iran ceased all compliance with its commitments to the nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by the order of President Rouhani. 

Mohammad Javad Zarif, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic claimed that the regime’s decision to cease compliance is in accordance with the article 36 of the JCPOA.

Zarif tweeted: “Para 36 of the accord illustrates why. We triggered & exhausted para 36 after US withdrawal. We gave E3+2 a few weeks while reserving our right. We finally took action after 60 weeks. As soon as E3 abide by their obligations, we'll reverse."

The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi, told Feruta that the European countries did not abide by their obligations to the deal. 

He added: The Eu was supposed to replace the void of United States after America left the deal, but unfortunately they have not been able to do as they promised.
