Iran: Protesters are sensationalizing Nazanin Zaghari’s case
As the objections of activists and international human rights organizations to the situation of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe keep increasing, Abbas Mousavi, the spokesperson for Iran’s ministry of foreign affairs said the protests outside the Iranian embassy in London are sensationalizing Nazanin Zaghari's case and Iran will not accept it.
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is a British-Iranian citizen who has been imprisoned by the Islamic Republic for the past three years on the charge of espionage.
According to IRNA, during a press conference on Monday, Mousavi mentioned the protest by Nazanin’s husband, Richard Ratcliffe, and his family and friends outside the Iranian embassy in London and said “such stunts do not help the case and creating any controversy that disrupts our embassy’s normal affairs is against international conventions.”
Richard Ratcliffe has gone on a hunger strike outside the Iranian embassy in London at the same time as his wife went on a hunger strike in prison in Iran. They have demanded “immediate and unconditional release of Nazanin” from prison.
The spokesperson for the Islamic Republic ministry of foreign affairs went on to say that Nazanin is a “national security-related criminal” and stated that Iran does not recognize dual citizenship and only considers her an Iranian.
