At least 14 workers of Haft-Tappeh Sugarcane Company arrested

The Haft-Tappeh Sugarcane Company workers’ syndicate announced that at least 14 workers have been arrested by the security forces a few hours ago.

According to the workers’ syndicate, 3 of the workers were arrested by the security police of Shush city on Sunday afternoon.

At the same time, 11 workers were arrested on the highway on their way to Tehran to meet with the members of the social committee of the parliament.

Yousef Bahmani, Mahmoud Khodaei, and Iman Akhzari were the three workers arrested in Shush. Mohammad Khanifar, Ebrahim Abbasi Monjazi, Omid Azadi, Hassan Javadi Kohnegi, Mehdi Davoudi, Mohammad Omidvar, Emad Kasir, and Ali Bani Saad are eight out of the eleven workers arrested on their way to Tehran. The names of the remaining three are yet to be announced.

The syndicate emphasized that the 11 of the arrested workers were on the way to meet with the members of parliament, and condemned the arrests as an act “unbelievably obscene, ugly, and anti-labor.”

Last week, at least 40 workers of Haft-Tappeh were summoned to the security police in Shush. The recent arrests occurred after the protests by the workers against the firing of their colleagues.

The workers of Haft-Tappeh Sugarcane Company started their protests in the Autumn of last year after several months of not receiving their paychecks. Since then, the workers have been repeatedly persecuted, arrested, and even tortured in order to give false confessions.
