New Chair of the Assembly of Experts' Investigation Committee is 91
Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, the 91-year-old chairman of the Assembly of Experts, was appointed as the chairman of the “investigation” committee of the Assembly. He will hold this position for two years.
The investigation committee is tasked with acquiring “all the necessary information” regarding the article 111 of the constitution. According to this article, “if the supreme leader is unable to perform his duties or lose one of the conditions mentioned in article 5 or article 109, or it is revealed that he never met some of those conditions in the first place, he is to be removed. Deciding on this matter is a responsibility of the Assembly of Experts in accordance with article 108.”
Jannati is now the chairman of a committee that oversees the supreme leader’s work to make sure he is still suitable to be the leader.
Ahmad Jannati is also a supreme leader appointee on the Guardian Council along with five other clerics. The Guardian Council decides who is qualified to run for the Assembly of Experts.
The Assembly of Experts is supposed to monitor the Supreme Leader.
