Noble Peace Prize winner and human rights lawyer Shirin Ebadi has called on the European governments to summon their ambassadors from Iran as a show of protest against the recent killing of protestors in the country.

‘’Open your eyes and ears and listen to the Iranian people’’, Ebadi told a gathering on Thursday, organised by the European Parliament under the title of ‘‘IRAN: What Future for Ethnic Groups?‘‘

Regarding the current situation in Iran, Ebadi warned that the country will see more mass protests against the ruling regime.

‘‘The stiuation in Iran is now like a volcano waiting to erupt. The wrath of the Iranian people would once agian emerge in form of an explosion‘‘, Ebadi said.

Refering to the terrorist attacks by the Islamic republic on European soil, Ebadi said: ‘‘Europe has been siding with the Iranian regime for the last 20 years and has only acted whenever its own interests have been threatened.‘‘

She reminded the EU governments that it was only when they collectively withdrew their ambassadors from Tehran in the 1990s in protest, that the Islamic republic ‘‘committed itself not to carry out any more terrorist attacks in Europe‘‘.

She also slammed the Islamic republic’s inerventions in the countries of the Middle East as ‘‘ambitious plans that have only brought instability to the region and poverty for the Iranian people‘‘.

‘‘I say to the European governments and their parliaments to open their ears and listen to our very simple demands. We want democracy and human rights for Iran. Whatever is good for your citizens is also good for our people‘‘.
