Over Twenty Baha’i Citizens Arrested in Two Months

 

The Human Rights Watch reported that the Islamic Republic has arrested over 20 citizens of Bahai faith in the past two months, plus a city council member who had defended their rights.

According to the report, out of 12 arrested in Shiraz, four are in Intelligence ministry’s custody. In addition, 11 Bahais were arrested in Isfahan and Alborz provinces.

Michael Page, Deputy of Middle East at Human Rights Watch says that Arrests of Baha’i citizens “without any explanation shows how intolerant the Islamic Republic is towards the Iranian Baha’i community. “

Mehdi Hajati, a member of Shiraz city council was arrested recently due to his tweet in support of the incarcerated Baha’i citizens.
