Rouhani: Britain’s seizure of Iranian tanker was childish, pathetic, stupid

The President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, responded to Britain’s seizure of Iranian supertanker in Gibraltar by calling it “childish, pathetic, a mistake, and stupid”.

On his Wednesday cabinet meeting, President Rouhani called Britain “occupiers” and warned the UK officials that “you are the ones who started to undermine security, and you will understand its consequences later.”

Rouhani hoped that such actions are not repeated otherwise “it would cause insecurity in the world and hurt everyone.”

The British force on Thursday detained an Iranian supertanker in Gibraltar which was transporting oil to Syria in violation of EU sanctions against the country.

At the same time, Mohammad Bagheri, the Chief of Staff for the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran also threatened that the seizure of the tanker will not go unanswered.

Regarding the nuclear deal (JCPOA), Rouhani called the behavior of the United States “laughable”, and said the American call the JCPOA a “terrible agreement”, and they leave it “without any excuse”, then when we scale back our compliance, they “express concern” and call for emergency meetings.

In response to the European countries expressing concern for Iran’s breach of the deal by surpassing the enrichment limit, the president of the Islamic Republic stated: Instead of us, the Europeans “should worry about the United States who has completely abandoned the deal.”

Rouhani went on to mention the economic conditions of Iran and the problems with banking and trade for the country, and said: If you “Americans” are honest in what you say, you must first lift all the sanctions and apologize to the Iranian people for your wrongdoings and comply with your previous commitments.” He called the negotiation offer by the United States “deceptive and wrong”.
