Rouhani: Threatens to Block Persian Gulf
President Hassan Rouhani once again declared that if the United States “wants to block our oil export, no oil will go through the Persian Gulf.”
On Tuesday, during his visit to Shahrud, Rouhani emphasized that no one can stop Iran’s oil export and the country will sell its oil. This is the second time that Rouhani is issuing a threat regarding blocking the Persian Gulf.
Recently Rouhani had stated that “if Iran can’t export oil, no country in the region will be exporting oil.”
At the time, the supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, supported Rouhani’s position and said those are important words that indicate the policy of the regime.
Before the second round of sanctions, some Iranian officials, including vice president Jahangiri had claimed that with the price of oil being over $80 a barrel, they could sell half the oil they were selling before and still be OK. But the United States’ efforts since then has brought the oil all the way down to $58. Which might have been the reason for this change of tone.
