Second day of protests by AzarAb workers in Arak city

The workers of AzarAb company in Arak went on strike and protests for the second day in a row on Monday. According to the reports, the protests were interrupted by the police.

The AzarAb company workers say they have not received their paychecks and benefits for two months, and despite the promises made by the officials regarding Bank Keshavarzi giving away its stocks in AzarAb company, the Bank has refused to offer its stocks on the stock market.

State-owned Fars News has reported that “about 100” workers are protesting and “the police are also present in the location.”

But according to another state-owned news agency, ISNA, the chairman of AzarAb Islamic council, Javad Saberi, said: “There are 1000 morning-shift workers currently in the company, but the security forces are positioned themselves in front of the company and do not allow the workers to leave the company and join the gathering.”

Saberi continued: “The workers and employees of the company all have student children and with the beginning of the new school year, the family expenses go up, and this has caused their concerns.”

An official in the governor’s office has promised that the issue with the company’s stocks will be resolved in the upcoming month and the bank will transfer its stocks to an investor approved by the governor’s office. He also promised that the governor's office will consult with the workers’ council regarding the transfer.

He had previously promised that 2 million tomans will be transferred to the workers’ accounts, but according to ISNA, “until this moment, no money has been transferred to the workers’ accounts.”
