The Secular Democratic Congress Discussions about Replacing the Islamic Republic

The 6th annual Iranian "Secular Democratic Congress” was held in Frankfurt, Germany. Esmail Nooriala, secretary-general of the Secular Democratic Party of Iran, said at the gathering: "Conditions in Iran have created an exceptional situation, along with new policies in Washington."

Highlights of Nooriala’s speech:

The conditions of the country plus the new policies in Washington have created an exceptional situation for Iran.

Nowhere in the world and at no point in history, a movement without leadership has come to a fruition. It's time to put aside the differences.

We want to establish a system based on the national will of Iranians.

All those who are active in politics need to participate in the conversation. If we were to accept that democracy is our solution, then even communists should not be worried.

Our discussion is not about the type of government. When Iran is liberated, each group presents its plans and then people will choose; we want to overthrow the Islamic regime and replace it with a secular state.

Niloufar Pour Ebrahim, the Iran International reporter at the Democratic Secular Congress in Frankfurt, informed us that some members of the Iranian constitutional party are also present at the congress.

According to our reporter, discussions about the constitutional committee and how to find an alternative to the Islamic Republic were among the discussions of this Congress.

"The goal of the secular Democratic congresses in its sixth session so far has been to resolve the differences between opposition groups," said Hassan Etemadi, a member of the Central Council of the Secular Democratic Movement (Mahestan).

In response to the attack on a military parade in Ahvaz, he said: "We condemn acts of violence against the children of Iran, whether in the army or even in the IRGC, and we do not agree with these actions."
