Strike continues: 256 Truckers arrested across Iran

With the continuation of the truckers’ strike in many cities of Iran, the number of arrested truckers is now 256.

The truckers’ strike started late September and it was primarily in protest to high prices of tires and spare parts for trucks. But the authorities responded to the strike with threats of maximum punishment and even execution for those truckers who "collude with the enemies to disrupt transportation across the country".

The arrested truckers have been charged with “disrupting transportation, undermining security, corruption on earth, and banditry” among others.

A number of domestic and international labour unions have supported these strikes.
