Student Gathering Violently Interrupted by Militia in Tehran University
A student gathering in Tehran University in protest to new regulations about hijab and dress codes in the university was attacked by Basij (IRGC’s militia) and forces in civilian clothing.
According to the reports from the students on social media, the gathering on Monday in protest to the new chastity and hijab regulations was violently interrupted by the Student Basij and forces in civilian clothing who had entered the university.
In the videos published on social media, the students chanted about hijab and headwear. Among these chats were “choice of clothing is our incontrovertible right”, “unemployment, forced labor, woman’s mandatory hijab”, and “freedom of choice is our incontrovertible right.”
The protesters also held signs regarding the uncertain situation of Marzieh Amiri, the incarcerated student and journalist.
At the end of their protest, the student read a statement in the university’s theater in which they said that the new chastity and morality regulations in universities are an insult to the students and universities. They stated that mandating certain clothing is a violation of privacy and human rights and that the rulers who interfered in people’s lifestyles have gained nothing but historical notoriety.
An hour after the student gathering began, forces that are commonly known as “civilian clothing units” entered the university and attacked the students along with Basij forces in front and inside of the theater.
