Two Cases of Child Brides Under 10 in Khuzestan Province Last Year

Faranak Mousavi, chairman of the Women and Family Institute in Khuzestan Province reported of two cases of child brides under the age of ten last year.

She told ISNA: “Sometimes the court decides that the 10-year-old girl has reached maturity, and it is for the court to decide whether a child has reached the age of marriage or not, but what matters is that child marriage should not happen if it is due to financial or cultural poverty.”

According to Mousavi, cultural elements, poverty, and ethnic issues are important factors in child marriages.
