Another Iranian tanker has docked next to Adrian Darya 1 in Syria
Tanker Trackers reported that an Iranian tanker with 350 thousand barrels capacity has docked next to Adrian Darya 1 in Baniyas harbor in Syria. This method is used to transfer cargo from one tanker to the other.
Adrian Darya 1 (formerly Grace 1) dropped anchor in Baniyas a few weeks ago.
Grace 1 was detained in Gibraltar for over a month for violation of EU sanctions on Syria. After the tanker was seized by British forces, the Islamic Republic officials pledged that the tanker’s destination is not Syria and demanded its release. The Gibraltar government released the tanker announcing that the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic has assured them that the tanker will not be delivering oil to Syria.
The United States announced that the ship’s cargo (2.1 million barrels of oil) belongs to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and is being delivered to finance terrorism. The United States also sanctioned the captain of the ship and its crew.
But after its release, Grace 1, now Adrian Darya 1, was last seen getting close to Syrian waters before it turned off its transponders, and later it was announced that it has delivered its cargo to its customer.
The ship has been docked in Syria ever since.
The British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab issued a statement condemning the Islamic Republic for openly lying about the destination of the tanker.
So far no explanation has been given by Islamic Republic officials about the presence of the new tanker, Jasmine, in Baniyas.
