Europe Threatens Iran with New Sanctions

According to Reuters, European diplomats have told Iran that they will not tolerate the country’s new missile program and new sanctions might be imposed on Iran because of it.

According to the report, the new sanctions could be in the form of freezing the assets and travel ban of IRGC members and people connected to Iran’s missile program.

European diplomats have also warned Iran about terrorist plots on European soil and said such activities are intolerable.

These warnings were delivered during a meeting of diplomats from France, Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark with the officials from the Islamic Republic’s foreign ministry.

The media inside Iran claimed in their reports that the diplomats of the six European countries were trying to justify the EU positions but “due to their unacceptable language and claims, the foreign ministry officials ended the meeting in less than ten minutes.” It was also reported that Iran is “reevaluating its intelligence and security cooperation with European countries and soon will take very important decisions.”

However, the new report from Reuters shows that contrary to what was reported previously, the diplomats were not trying to justify the sanctions but were warning Iran about new sanctions.

A European diplomat told Reuters that Iranian officials were unhappy with the views expressed by the European and “they suddenly broke protocol and got up and left the room.”

Another diplomat has stated that these events are signs of more tension in the relationship between EU and Iran.

Iran’s money laundering, terrorist activities, the Special Purpose Vehicle for trade, the Warsaw summit, and the missile program are the main issues that could impact the relations between Iran and Europe.
