United States: Iran is Still the World’s Leading State Sponsor of Terrorism

The United States Department of State has declared that the Islamic Republic remains the leading state sponsor of terrorism in the world with "near-global reach".

The annual survey of global terrorism released last Wednesday, August 19th, indicates that Iran and its proxies are responsible for attacks and attempted attacks in the Middle East, Europe, South America, and Africa.

In this report, Iran was accused of sending two Hezbollah agents to Michigan and New York last year, both arrested for gathering intelligence for Hezbollah. Hezbollah receives regular financial and military support from the Islamic Republic and their leader, Nasrallah, calls himself a follower of the supreme leader of Islamic Republic.

The survey claims Iran is responsible for the intensification of conflicts in the Middle East which damages the national and legitimate interests of the U.S government in Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen.

The office the Islamic Republic representative to the U.N quickly responded to this report and rejected all the allegations while claiming the United States is responsible for all the instability in the Middle East.

Since the withdrawal of the Tramp government from Iran's nuclear deal in July this year, the United States has adopted a tougher stance against Iran.

Brian Hook, chairman of the “Iran Action Group”, also accused Iran of conducting terrorist attacks in the Iraqi Kurdistan and declared that the United States intends to target Tehran's funds to stop its missile development, support for militant groups, and cyber attacks.

He stressed that Iran's ballistic missile program was part of its nuclear activities, and any deal with Iran over the nuclear issue should include ending the production of ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
