Counterfeit Alcoholic Drinks Kill 8 in Bandar Abbas

The director of public and international relations at the Medical University of Hormozgan announced that the number of people who have lost their lives due to the consumption of counterfeit alcoholic beverages has reached 8.

According to Fatemeh Katoozian, so far 110 individuals have reported to the hospital with this problem, and 102 of those have been hospitalized.

She added: Last week two more lost their lives in the hospital for consuming counterfeit alcohol.

According to the police authorities, a husband and wife have been arrested for the distribution of these counterfeit alcoholic drinks.

Counterfeit alcoholic beverages death is a recurring problem in Iran, due to the fact that consumption of alcohol is considered a crime punishable by lashings under Sharia Law.
