Faezeh Hashemi: People are Disappointed in Reformists
Faezeh Hashemi, the daughter of the late Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, who was considered to be the second most powerful man in the Islamic Republic for decades, says that “people have lost faith in the reformists: because many of them “are after the interests of their own team or group and did nothing that would make people hopeful that by supporting reform they might achieve their goals.”
In an interview with Borna website, while referring to the actions of reformists since their victory in the 2013 elections and the city council elections, she stated that “the government and city council have issues.”
She emphasized that she has no criticism regarding the members of parliament because they do not have any executive power and their bills can be rejected by the Guardian Council.”
Faezeh Hashemi has been arrested and sent to court and prison for her support of the Green Movement. Although she admits that due to her being the daughter of a political figure, she never went through a real interrogation and has received preferential treatment.
Faezeh Hashemi emphasized that all political prisoners are charged with “national security crimes” by the Islamic Republic.
Regarding the issue of mandatory hijab, Hashemi stated: “Most people like me who oppose the mandatory hijab will not necessarily remove their hijabs if hijab becomes voluntary.”
She stated that the number of veils in the country is reducing daily, and added that a survey by the parliament’s research center shows that mandatory hijab has exactly the opposite effect.
