Less than a third of AIDS patients in Iran are treated

Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Gooya, the chief of epidemic disease management at the ministry of health reported that there are 43000 individuals suffering from AIDS in Iran.

He claimed that out of this number, only 13000 have been identified and are currently receiving treatment.

Gooya stated that “there is no information on the 30000 AIDS patients in Iran and it is not clear how they are receiving treatment.” He also reported that since the revolution, “almost 10000 AIDS patients have lost their lives in Iran.”

According to the chief of epidemic disease management, the main cause of AIDS transmission in Iran is “addicts sharing needles”.
