President Rouhani: If United States Repents, We Will Forgive
The president of the Islamic Republic says that if the United States repents and turns back from the path it is on, we are ready to forgive.
In his meeting with the ambassadors and representatives of foreign organizations in Tehran, Rouhani stated the conditions under which the U.S repentance will be accepted: “If the United States repents and turns back from the path it is on, and do an accurate calculation and apologize for its previous interventions in Iran, we are willing to accept their penitence despite all the years that they have been cruel to us.”
Ever since the United States left the JCPOA and implemented new rounds of sanctions, these types of rhetoric between the two countries have increased.
One week ago, President Rouhani had confessed in a speech that Iran is currently going through its worst economic crisis in the past 40 years (since the Islamic revolution); and that confession was used by Mike Pompeo in a Persian tweet addressing Iranians: “Even your President Rouhani admits that the regime has failed in the past 40 years. It didn’t have to be like this. But your regime has always prioritized ideology over the interest and welfare of Iranian people.”
Rouhani also criticized the Europeans for incompetence and weakness in keeping their promises regarding the special-purpose vehicle for trade which they had promised.
