Turkey Heavily Reduces Its Oil and Gas Import from Iran
The most recent official data in Turkey shows that the country has heavily reduced its oil and gas import from Iran.
According to the statistics released by the government, in the past ten months, Turkey has reduced its oil import from Iran by over 30%.
From January to the end of October, Turkey, which is an old customer of Iranian oil, has bought almost 173 thousand barrels of oil a day from Iran.
Reuters’ data shows Iran’s oil export to its other traditional customers like China, India, Japan, and South Korea, has been reduced 10 percent.
Japan and Korea and Turkey did not buy any oil from Iran in November, but they will start buying again in the new year.
Iran’s oil export is expected to drop under a million barrels in the upcoming year.
Turkey’s gas import from Iran has also reduced 20 percent.
Iran’s electricity export has also reduced over 31 percent from March to November of the last year. Iraq and Pakistan are the traditional customers of Iran’s electricity.
Turkey stopped buying electricity from Iran two years ago.
Last Summer, due to electricity shortage, the Islamic Republic suspended its electricity export to Iraq and Pakistan for several weeks.
