Warning Issued for Evacuation of 3 Towns and 51 Villages in Khuzestan
The Water and Electricity Organization of Khuzestan issued a warning about the flood threat in three towns and 51 villages near Dez and Kharkheh rivers.
The organization has asked the related authorities and organizations to take necessary measures for evacuation of the 3 towns of Rafi, Bostan, and Susangerd and 33 villages near Kharkheh river and 18 villages near the Dez river.
The Water and Electricity Organization also asked the authorities to make necessary preparations for the evacuation of 18 villages near the Karoun river.
At the same time, an official in the organization told Tasnim News that due to the unprecedented rains this year, almost 24 billion cubic meters of water (almost 30 percent of all of Iran’s surface waters) has entered the dams in Khuzestan. According to this official, due to continued rain in upcoming, some of the water behind the dams must be emptied in order to avoid much bigger floods.
The first wave of rains also caused heavy floods in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province after ten years of drought. Due to the risk of landslide and flood, around 20 villages were evacuated.
The meteorological office has predicted that the rain will continue through next week. The office has warned 21 provinces about heavy rain in the upcoming days.
According to the Crisis Management office, the crisis conditions continue and might worsen with more rain in the upcoming week.
