An American official told Reuters that a U.S drone was shot down by an Iranian missile on international waters.

After it was reported by the Iranian media that an American spy drone was shot down by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Hossein Salami, the chief of IRGC announced that the drone had entered Iranian maritime boundary. Salami stated that shooting down the drone was “a clear, direct, and precise message to the enemy” that violating our borders is a red line.

However, the spokesperson for the U.S Central Command (Centcom) told the Associated Press that the U.S Navy did not have any drones in Iranian airspace.

The media close to the IRGC said the drone was shot down in Hormozgan province in the south of Iran near Kooh Mobarak area about 65 km from the Gulf of Oman.

A military source has told Fox News that The U.S. Navy’s RQ-4A Global Hawk drone was over international airspace and about 17 miles from Iran at the time.

The RQ-4A Global Hawk drone can fly for over 24 hours at a time at altitudes higher than 10 miles (16 km), with an operational range of 8,200 nautical miles and it requires a crew of 4 operators.
