Despite US sanctions Iran continues to send tankers to Venezuela
As the war of words between Washington and Tehran intensifies, reports indicate that the second Iranian oil tanker has arrived in Venezuela.
The second Iranian oil tanker “Forest” entered Venezuelan waters on Monday and was welcomed by the country’s military escort.
Previously, the oil tanker “Fortune” had arrived in Venezuela with 43 million liters of oil. Three more oil tankers are on their way.
Washington has criticized the move and says it will monitor these tankers. Iranian and Venezuelan officials have warned in response that any action taken by the US will meet with their reaction.
In an interview with the Emir of Qatar, Iran’s President Rouhani said if the tankers face any problems “in the Caribbean Sea or anywhere else in the world,” there will be problems for the US.
Nicolas Maduro, the president of Venezuela thanked the Islamic Republic for these shipments and referred to the two countries as “revolutionary nations” who “stand against North American imperialism”.
Morgan Ortagus, the spokeswoman for the US State Department said on Sunday that Venezuelans want a free and fair election that returns the country to democracy and revitalizes the economy.
The president of Cuba also celebrated the shipments and claimed this action has “defeated the unacceptable embargo.”
