Teacher Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison;

Five French Syndicates Demanded Mohammad Habibi’s Freedom

In an open letter to the supreme leader of Islamic Republic of Iran, Five French labor syndicates demanded the release of Mohammad Habibi and other incarcerated teachers.

The letter calls his imprisonment a “violation of Human Rights and basic freedom of association.” It also quotes his family on the “terrible treatment” that Habibi and his fellow incarcerated teachers receive in prison, and the fact that prison authorities “deny him medical treatment that he urgently needs.”

Mohammad Habibi is a board member of Tehran Teachers’ Center (syndicate). He was arrested in a peaceful assembly of teachers in May.

He was charged with “assembly and conspiracy to commit crimes against the national security”, and he has received a sentence of over 7 years in prison, two years barred from membership in political and social groups and parties, barred from leaving the country, and 74 lashes.
