Iran: Our Presence in Venezuela is to “Improve Water and Electricity System”
The Islamic Republic of Iran called the recent comments by Mike Pompeo regarding Iran’s intervention in Venezuela “ridiculous”.
Abbas Mousavi, the new spokesperson for the ministry of foreign affairs accused the United States of trying to turn Latin America to “its own backyard”.
He continued: “While Iranian experts are trying to improve the water and electricity system in Venezuela, U.S has stolen $30 billion of Venezuela’s money and targeted it with economic terrorism…”
During his travels to several Latin American countries, Pompeo mentioned the direct flight from Tehran to Caracas, saying there is no doubt that the Islamic Republic is interfering in South America.
He told Voice of America in Paraguay: “The direct flight between Tehran and Caracas is a clear example of Iran’s intervention in South America, and it is not in the benefit of the U.S and the people of South America. Iran is the biggest state-sponsor of terrorism and an international threat.”
Iran and Venezuela have had a strong relationship ever since Chavez and Ahmadinejad presidency. Through Iran, Hezbollah has also become involved in Venezuela. It is believed that Hezbollah is funding and organizing smuggling groups and transporting technology, money, and people.
