The spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ministry of foreign affairs, Abbas Mousavi, says the Iranian tanker Adrian Darya 1 has reached its destination and sold its oil.

In an interview with the state TV of the Islamic Republic on Sunday, Mousavi said: “From the beginning, the Islamic Republic announced that Tehran will decide the destination of Adrian Darya 1, and we did just that.”

“The tanker has arrived at its destination, and the oil is sold,” Mousavi said.

Yesterday, satellite images were released that showed Adrian Darya 1 has dropped anchor near the Syrian port of Tartus. According to Refinitiv Company’s data, the Iranian tanker turned of its transponder last Tuesday in order to avoid detection.

The last location of the tanker has been recorded between Cypress and Syria.

Adrian Darya 1, formerly Grace 1, was detained by British forces in Gibraltar on the suspicion of transporting over two million barrels of oil to Syria which is in violation of EU sanctions.

A few weeks later, the tanker was released with Iran’s assurances that Syria is not the destination of the tanker.

In response to the seizure of the tanker, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) detained the British tanker Stena Impero while passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

The spokesman for the foreign ministry also announced that the process of releasing Stena Impero is nearly finished, and the tanker will be released soon.

Tehran previously released seven crew members of the British tanker.
