Motion to Put IRGC on Canada’s List of Terrorist Organizations
During an exhibition in honor of Iranian political prisoners and human rights activists, Canadian Senator Linda Frum announced her plan to propose a motion to put IRGC on Canada’s list of terrorist organizations.
In her speech, Senator Frum stated: “The motion’s aim is to put pressure on the Islamic Republic regime as one of the biggest human rights violators in the world.”
She explained that her motion strongly condemns the human rights violations in Iran and asks the Senate to encourage the government of Canada to stand with the Iranian people. The motion also condemns president Rouhani’s hateful anti-Israel speech in which he called Israel a cancerous tumor.
The motion asks the Canadian government to add the IRGC to Canada’s list of terrorist organizations and enforce the Magnitsky Act for Iran.
The event was held at the International Center for Human Rights in Canada (ICHR). The chairman of the ICHR and the organizer of the event, Ardeshir Zarezadeh also spoke at the event and stated that: “Our goal is to increase the cost of violating Human Rights for the Islamic Republic regime.”
Shaparak Shajarizadeh, women’s rights activist was also a speaker and talked about the terrible conditions of political prisoners in Iran and her experience in witnessing the torture of women by the regime in prison.
